Commissioned by the International Tuba/Euphonium Association (ITEA), "CONCERTO for TUBA-EUPHONIUM QUARTET" was premiered by the Sotto Voce Quartet at ITEC 2019 at the University of Iowa. This may in fact be Mike Forbes's most expansive and challenging work for the tuba / euphonium quartet. Like Bartók's "Concerto for Orchestra," this composition has no accompaniment and is a tour de force for the quartet. Drawing on extended techniques (slide removal, multiphonics), Michael Forbes creates a dramatic and colorful work that particularly highlights the virtuosity of each musician.
