B'Witchin' for Brass Band - Mike Forbes
This programmatic work for brass band depicts the "B'witchin'" qualities of music. At first, haunting dissonances are heard. Then, this motive evolves with a tender harmonic treatment to become far more pleasing...becoming warm and attractive even. The piece has lulled the listener into a trance...YOU'VE BEEN BEWITCHED! You must run and escape this curse! What follows is a fast, Shostakovichesque burlesque. Finally, you've outrun the curse and defeated it's maker, but somehow something in you has changed forever and the work ends on a heroic, oddly pleasing yet deranged processional to a final dark cadence....now you possess the ability to bewitch others with your music.
